VIASPACE Inc. (OTC: VSPC) develops a biomass and energy crop called Giant King Grass. This grass can be burned in power plants or made into pellets and burned with coal to generate eletricity in biomass power plants. This process reduces the the carbon emissions from coal burning power plants. The company is based in Santa Cruz, CA and was founded in 1988.[1]

As of this writing on 12/26/2022 the company seems to have ceased operations. No news has been published since 2019 and the stock price is showing as $0.0000.[2] In addition, financial reports have not been published since 2019.

OTC Markets website states that this company currently trades on the double black diamond Expert Market, which means traditional market makers will not publish quotes as they do for other OTC stocks. OTC Markets warns that stocks that trade on the Expert Market are likely to have larger spreads and more volatility.[3] This situation is generally considered really bad for regular investors and these stocks are extremely risky, even more so than typical OTC stocks. The company claims that "Giant King Grass is a very high-yield, non-genetically modified, perennial grass suitable for tropical and subtropical regions. It can be used as a dedicated energy crop -- as a low carbon, renewable replacement for coal and oil to generate electricity and heat, and as a nonfood feedstock for second-generation liquid biofuels to replace fossil fuels such as gasoline and diesel fuel, and for green biochemicals, bioplastics and biomaterials. Giant King Grass is also a feedstock for anaerobic digesters to produce biomethane which can be used to generate electricity or as a transportation fuel."[5]

- In pellet form it can replace up to 20% of coal in existing power plants.

Contract with GERMADE[edit]

The most recent news from the company is dated June 25, 2019 and states that "it had signed a contract with GERMADE, Inc. of Seoul, South Korea that plans to grow Giant King Grass (GKG) in the tropical Philippines and ship it to its animal feed customers in South Korea". In addition, the company expects its first harvest from their 110 acre farm in Southern California.[7]
