Westell Technologies, Inc. (OTC: WSTL) is an American company that is a leading service provider in the telecommunication industry. Listed on the OTC Pink market, this company design, distribute, and manufacturers products and solutions for telecommunication companies[1]. The company is the second largest manufacturer of digital subscriber line (DSL) cable modems in the USA.[2]
Origin[edit]
Since its inception, the company has helped network service providers, integrators, and end customers to improve communication services and reduce operational and capital costs. But the journey started in the 1980s with the introduction of signaling and transmission equipment, company sold its technology to regional phone companies including Ameritech, Bell South and Bell Atlantic. In 1987, due to peer pressure and the induction of competitive technology, the company faced a drop in their sales by $8 million.[3]
1988 was the year when Gary Seamans was introduced as chief executive officer, having years of experience at At&T, the new CEO introduced Network Interface Unit (NIU). This device automatically detected problems in customer wire. After NIU another popular service conference calls that supported video and data sharing, this high-end service was introduced through its subsidiary company conferencePlus Inc.[3]
The 1990s was the time when consumer trends started to change, In 1993 Westell introduced ADSL technology that totals evolved the consumer experience where telephone lines were replaced with the broadband device. After going into Initial public offering in 1995, in 1998, the company entered in the British market with Bell Atlantic and started using Westell DSL services.[4]
In 2000, the company faith started to change when telecommunication companies on a larger scale started to use DSL services. Since then, the company has enhanced its product range and solutions with the latest state-of-the-art technology and acquired subsidiaries to enhance its operations.[5]

Westell provides a range of solutions and products through its three segments In-building wireless solutions (IBW), intelligent site management (ISM) and communication network solutions (CNS).
In-Building Wireless (IBW)[edit]
Building wireless solution provides Cellular, Cellular DAS and Public Safety DAS solutions. Cellular Das; this solution ensures clear and extended cellular signals provided by network operators within a building. Westell’s Cross Fire is the latest product that enhances Distributed Antenna System, this system supports all 5G cellular brand with the flexibility to deploy in remote locations up to 40 kilometers away.[6]
While covering the IBW solution, Westell offers public safety DAS solution. This solution is supported by high-tech equipment to enhance collaboration between Fire, Police and EMS professionals during Emergency Responder Radio Communication.[7]
The company also offers a wide range of products for IBW through clear link solutions comprised of ancillary, Antennas, cellular and public safety Passives, and Cellular and Public safety DAS. These products offer wireless coverage to enhance cellular and public safety network performance and minimize operational costs for tenants and other service providers.
Intelligent Site Management[edit]
This solution is built for network service providers to monitor their infrastructure equipment with advanced and sophisticated management systems. This solution comprises Tower Monitoring and Control, Generator, Fuel Monitoring& Control, Smart City IOT Monitoring, Environment & Security Monitoring, Power Management, Site Security Management, and In Building & Public Safety Monitoring.
Significantly, Optima Management System (OMS) is an upcoming solution offered by the company. This software is built for cellular sites, substations and all cellular infrastructure facilities to monitor, manage and control site performance from their desktop. One of the important features of this system is the flexible WAN interface that allows enterprises to manage their broadband and wireless network in a more agile and customizable manner that lower operational cost.[8]

Offering both indoor and outdoor equipment, the company offers system integration and cabinet enclosure, power distribution fuse and breaker panel, fiber access solutions, network connectivity panels, and couplers, system integration, outside plant & industrial network and rural broadband deployment.[9]
